Welcome back, everybody, to the Words from the Nerds podcast. We are finally back. Charlie has decided to come back from vacation after like three weeks off, missing an entire episode and missing a live stream. Hold on, I was there for the live stream. You were barely there. You were barely there for any of that. Shout outs to the Comic Con live stream. If you want to see our reaction to any of that news, then go ahead and check that out. We're reacting live to everything that came out Ghost Rider, Black, Panther, Doomsday Stuff, etc. Go check that out. Uh, potentially one for D23 might be in the works here in the next couple of weeks when we're expecting more news, potentially X-Men casting. Um some gents in this uh podcast room here are obsessing over somebody, some casting, but I'll be honest, Charlie. That picture deserves more. I dude, that's what I'm saying, bro. Like I've seen, sorry, like little side tangent. I've seen pictures of Cooper where I'm like, I can picture Scott, and uh you know, I've seen certain pictures of the casting, but Kaylee Spaney, I never like had a picture where I was like, Oh, I see it. I always thought it like she would be great, yeah. But then you sent a picture, and that's probably an AI image, by the way. But no, yeah, yeah, it probably is a picture, and I was just like, now I I really see the vision, whereas like that that wasn't the case before. So, anyways, D23. I'm on my hands and knees barking like a dog. I've seen so many people who are just like, cast me as gambit, cast me as gambit.
SPEAKER_04I I sent a video to Aiden like practicing my card throws to get cast.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh, so D23, probably more exciting stuff coming our way for Marvel. Um, hopefully they're taking their time. I've heard that there might be some rushing with the casting just so they can get the announcement out. Hopefully that's not the case. Hopefully they're uh you know being careful with it. Gonna be so crazy to me.
SPEAKER_04Like you've had so much time. Like Jake, Jake Shrear has been signed on since last year. Like that's just crazy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I have a feeling that they've had most of the casting solidified for multiple months. And I I think there's maybe just a couple last minute things, and maybe we won't even get like a full cast announcement. Um, but if you know if they're debating who they're gonna cast as like Scott, then like that might be a a bit of a last minute scramble, but surely two weeks out, they gotta they have something locked down and we're gonna get more information, especially now that we're post brand new day, but we'll get into that. Uh we'll get into that later. But anyways, D23 comes up here in just a couple weeks, might be another live stream, and uh yeah, we're gonna uh pretty much hop straight into it with some comments from the last episode. I'll be honest, I wasn't prepared. I did not have last week's episode.
SPEAKER_06I I looked, there isn't any.
SPEAKER_04You're good. All right, there's no comments on the last episode. I don't know if we wanted to read no, no, there's no comments on the live stream, it's just the live chat. Never mind. Yeah, you're gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_02So if it yeah, if there were, you'd read the whole chat off.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, uh probably no comments because Mimish was on the episode, so any thoughts that he had, he got to share with us in real time. So uh I do want Charlie, I want to I want a quick little recap from you on a couple of things your trip, your experience, and thoughts on the Odyssey. Experience meaning you got to see it in a different format, uh different state, different theater. Uh, and also some brief thoughts on Doomsday trailer, which you also haven't gotten to talk about. So quick, just quick little uh, you know, those three kind of big things, but what's your thoughts on that?
SPEAKER_04Uh firstly, the trip. Uh, it was fun. Really had a a fun, a fun time. Uh Disney World is fun. Universal Orlando is fun. I think Disneyland, both that's including Disneyland and California Adventure, is better. Uh, just just flat out than Disney World, right?
SPEAKER_00Then Disney World, yes. Yeah, yeah. I would take Universal over all of them, though.
SPEAKER_04Really? See, are you a thrill ride kind of guy? Is that why you say that?
SPEAKER_00Okay, then that makes sense. I get almost as much joy from going to like Six Flags as I do going to Disney because I like I don't know because higher thrill rides more consistently.
SPEAKER_04Sure. No, that's that's totally fair. And part of what I was realizing on this trip is like I think I'm more of a thrill ride guy too. But it it honestly, not that it worries me, but I I just I don't know that I want to be that way because like there's stuff to enjoy about all the ride because like I don't enjoy um rise of the resistance as much as I re enjoy other stuff because it's not as thrilling, but it is very immersive, and I appreciate it for that aspect as well, of course. Um but like I was talking to uh Cassidy, my fiance's uh older brother, he's a huge Star Wars guy. His favorite ride is Rise of the Resistance. He rode that like three or four times while we were down there. And uh I was I was championing Guardians of the Galaxy, the coaster, because that is a phenomenal time. That is just just crazy. Um and I just I put that leaps and bounds above Rise of the Resistance because of that throw factor. Uh obviously nothing's gonna sure and nothing's gonna beat that like that first time when you ride the ride, which sucks for for her family, little tangent side note thing. The first time, because we wrote it, just Casting and I, we bought a lightning lane for it the very first day and we wrote it, and that's when I sent the video to you guys. But the next day, we uh all got up early, we rope dropped Epcot, and we got on the ride pr relatively quickly. There's eight of us, all eight of us got on the ride, and then dude, right before the launch, the like there was a malfunction or something in it. We were just sitting in the dark. Yeah, dude. And then all the it so maybe it kind of enhanced it, depending on how you look at it, depending on the on the person you are, but like the build-up right before the launch, uh, it stopped right when the launch was supposed to happen, and then we sat there for like probably a minute and a half, and then all of a sudden the launch happened. And so uh that was a little bit of a bummer, but I mean it was still it was still cool. I got a different song every time I rode, so that was cool. How many times did you end up doing it? Only three. Uh, it's it really, dude. Park hopping, that's another thing uh that I find to be an issue with in in Disney World, just for time's sake. And maybe this is my fault, I should have better time management or just a better plan to tackle it. But I we only got to do it three times. We I I had bought a lightning lane for both of us to do it again on the last day. Um, but we were trying to fill up our last day with as much as we could. So we also booked lightning lanes for Tower of Terror and Muppet Roller Coaster, Rock and Roller Coaster. Um, but obviously those are in two different parks compared to Guardians, the the other, or that's in one different park, and Guardians is in it is is in a different one. So like we parkopped over there, but then by the time we were done with uh we ended up skipping Tower of Terror because we were like, oh, we need to get back for Guardians. Uh even though by the time we were done with Muppets, there just wasn't enough time to get all the way back to Epcot before Epcot closed, and so we ended up missing our fourth chance to ride it. But which sucks because I paid extra for that one. That one's one you have to pay specifically for. But anyway, uh Trip was really fun, Universal is super fun uh as well. I think uh I I I expressed this a little bit on the on the live stream, but like uh Velocicoaster is super fun, but I feel like I'm gonna die. I genuinely I feel like I'm gonna fall out of my seat to like that that one, like I do find it fun, but like that's just a crazy feeling. Versus, and I know you don't have a touchstone for this yet, but Stardust Racers, ah man, I don't I don't feel like I'm falling out of my seat at all, and I still get that super thrill thrill from it and everything, everything like that. So uh that was all great. Um onto the Odyssey, because that was on the trip as well. Uh I saw you guys talking about my rating. Oh, four and a half stars because you didn't watch it twice. Uh I was gonna watch it a second time when I got home. I will I I had tickets for cheap Tuesday, but then uh Cassidy's family is switching over their phone plans, so then they're they're getting new phones, and then uh Cassidy's mom called us while we were out, and and uh Cassidy's phone had come in and it was already kind of late. So it was either we could do that today or we could watch the Odyssey. And so I refunded our Odyssey tickets and we went and got the phone. Um, so I'll I'll get around to it. I'll get around to it. Oh my gosh, I'll get around to it, you know. But I love the Odyssey, man. My my favorite movie of the year, uh it beat out obsession. I I dude, it's just uh like I I I think back to like the scene, obviously, like in Dolby, like and I'm sure it the same thing could be said for Iamax, but you're feeling everything in your seat, and also it's it's just the sound mix. Yeah, it's so loud. It's the sound mix that that Nolan put out, of course.
SPEAKER_00Anyone dating on that doesn't understand that like you're supposed to like when you're on the boat and you're physically like in pain because of how loud the sound is, you're not supposed to be able to Christopher Nolan. You're supposed to go, Oh my gosh, I'm feeling the intensity of the scene that I'm witnessing. Like, that's the point.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Um, yeah, I I agree, I I couldn't agree more, but like I point to the scene of uh Cersei, I think her character is turning the men into pigs and like physically reshaping their faces. Like that was crazy. That was so good. And then, of course, the siren, the siren scene is a is a wonderful standout. Um, just all in all, I mean, of course, it's a fantastic film. The performances were were were wonderful. I really do want to watch it again, and I will get around to doing it again. But now, Spider-Man is my priority. I want to see Spider-Man a third time before I even go see the uh the Odyssey a second time. But uh then what was the third thing you asked me? Oh uh Doomsday. Uh yeah, I mean I I gave my my my quick shirtless thoughts or uh for a little bit while you guys were recording that one episode. Uh but I guess to go a little bit more in depth, I actually I did feel something while I was watching the trailer. Again, I was watching it right outside of the uh entrance to Islands of Adventure. But I did like watching that, watching Thor like run at and jump at Doom and seeing the two-finger thing, actually getting to see it, even though it was already described to us and everything like that. It was really cool. It was a cool thing to see. But of course, like it's not grabbing me like Infinity Wars trailer grabbed me or like Endgames trailer grabbed me. Not that I expect it to grab me like Endgames trailer, but I would expect it to grab me like Infinity Wars trailer did. Uh, with some it to in some regard, you know, uh like obviously there's a little bit of a mixed bag there with like characters that I just don't have any real attachment to, like Gambit. I I am happy he's here. I do think Channing Tatum is great as the character, he's funny as the character, but like I I I seen him in one project. Same thing with Shang-Chi, even though I like Shang-Chi more than I like Gambit, but again, I've haven't seen Shang-Chi since 2021. Like, what are we doing? You know? Um, which is like that's not unheard of. Like, Doctor Strange didn't get a sequel until six years later or however long it was. But I think it was five years. But I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It's it seven, no, six? Was it 2022?
SPEAKER_04Oh no, 2022, you're right. Yeah, yeah. It was six years, yeah. Um so like I don't know, there's a it's a real mixed bag for me. I'm still very much excited. Like, I'm here for the hype of it all. The one that leaked from Comic-Con was much better. Uh I loved that one. Uh, because that's what like what I'm here for is like the the read and doom of it all, watching Reed scream at Doom and like ask him if he did this. The the I'm so interested in the Fantastic Four's perspective of Doom and how they're gonna make that work. Uh, as well as like it's interesting like the route they're going with showing him as a villain in all the trailers, but then there's clearly shots of someone being edited out of all these big room conversations, and I feel like I feel like that's gonna be Doom working with them. So it's like you're showing me in the trailers he's a villain, but then when I go watch the movie, you're expecting me to be like like you want me to be surprised at his surprise turn when he turns on all the heroes, and it's like that's just the way you're marketing it.
SPEAKER_00I I don't know if that's how they're gonna do it though. Do you think not? I just I just don't like I don't know, bro. I think there will be for his motive, there will be heroes that actually agree with him, and then eventually, like it becomes too much where they can no longer agree with him. Heroes, bro. What are we talking about? Namor, Namor's a hero now? All right, you can calm down, buddy. You go you get what I'm saying, like if he has genuine motive for whatever he's trying to do for like the greater good, even though it seems immediately evil, and some of the heroes agree with him and some of them don't, which causes inner conflict between them. I like I don't I don't know, it'll be interesting.
SPEAKER_04That that that's probably where like, and I said this is one of my predictions for the Comic-Con uh thing, like Avengers versus X-Men. I think that was like my out there prediction, which none of my predictions came true from that fucking.
SPEAKER_02I don't think literally anybody's except for mine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, shout out to Aiden. Yeah. Um Aiden saw the the rumor that day and then made a prediction.
SPEAKER_02No, I was talking about the next day. No, the the ghostwriter stuff. The ghostwriter thing.
SPEAKER_00Well, his prediction with the casting for the main character, and then like the next day, there was the rumor of Ryan Goss about the role of Ghost Rider, and then they announced that.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, that's cool.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04Um, but yeah, so like I I see what you're saying, and I I do think that that's uh a possibility, and I I I think that's where like the pseudo Avengers versus X-Men thing is gonna happen. Uh like there's gonna be some people because I imagine it like this, and I'm I'm hesitant to talk about this just because I believe it's a leak, but it's such a common leak now that people are just making jokes about it up and down the street, uh, as if it's like a confirmed thing that everybody knows about. Um they're even talking about it as it pertains to the post-credit scene of Brand New Day. I don't know if I don't know if you I know I think Aiden knows what I'm talking about. Ben, do you know what I'm talking about?
SPEAKER_00Uh I I'll just say no.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00Toby. Toby, that's all I'll say. Okay, I know I know snippets, uh I know snippets of it, but I can't really like Okay. I couldn't fully tell you exactly what it all means.
SPEAKER_04Gotcha. Well, okay, that that's I I think if if if we're going with what you're saying of like the some people are gonna agree with him, I think in my mind, what they're teeing up is like the X-Men are going to physically see what an incursion is and the devastation from it and and and see everything that it it it it ruins, and I think that they'd be more willing to side with Doom, maybe, uh, because Doom wants to stop that sort of thing. And Thor is leading the Avengers and uh uh the new Avengers and the Fantastic Four, and telling him that like this threat is real, Doom is real, like we should not like we need to take care of him, and they're gonna disagree on on that, but then eventually I'm sure they'll they'll come back together and and fight him together in some way. Uh that's my like headcanon thing, and that's just avoiding the Toby of it all. But just to touch on it, I guess, because everybody like everybody's saying the Toby's universe crashes in the X-Men universe and Toby's universe blows up, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I don't know. Why? Why? I couldn't tell you why.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_04I couldn't tell you why.
SPEAKER_00That just seems like something where you would have to do that.
SPEAKER_04Well, I think it leaks. I think it leaked, and I think one of the scripts leaked. If that's what you like, why people think that, I think that's why. But why they're doing that, I don't know. Couldn't tell you.
SPEAKER_02I I I I mean, I I think it's I think it's uh I think it's a Professor X being like, it's them or us. This is this is what we gotta do. Send that boy Wolverine and Deadpool down there and you know, blow that thing up. Yeah um, yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04But no, dude, everybody's joking about like they're making memes of like Toby Toby McGuire after his universe gets blown up, after after Aunt May and it gets gets blown to smithereens. Like, what the fuck? Like, what are we talking about?
SPEAKER_05Yo, chill out, bro. I haven't read these leaks. Fucking hey.
SPEAKER_00Holy shit. Uh after uh after having some time to digest the trailer, there's kind of two things I've come to the realization on and settled with. The first, I'm actually feeling good about the movie, only for the sense of I feel like Marvel recently has really been taking their time and putting focus into their projects and understanding how important it is for them to bounce back. And for the most part, they've been on a really big upswing in the last like two years, huge upswing.
SPEAKER_06With the exception of Captain America.
SPEAKER_00Yes, other than Captain America, the last couple years have been very, very good. Um, so from that standpoint, I I feel confident about it. It's the same reason why I already feel good about Secret Wars, like when Kevy Kevin Feige says we don't have another project between Doomsday and Secret Wars because we understand the gravity of releasing Avengers movies and we're putting our focus into that. He's like, there's hardly anything else coming out. We're getting like Vision Quest, and that's basically it. Maybe Daredevil season three, but I feel like that's mostly operating on its own at this point. They're kind of they're doing their own thing and it's working well. So if Kevin Feige, who went from at one point previewing that they were going to release like 11 projects in 2021, it was like four movies and like three animated shows and five other live action shows all within a single year.
SPEAKER_06Remember when these movies were supposed to come out in the same year?
SPEAKER_00Dude, yeah, I remember that too. Yeah. But we're going from that to hey, we're giving the Avengers room to breathe because these are very crucial movies, and we need these to work well. So I'm feeling better than I expected to be, um, with a very open mind. The other thing that I realized as I've reflected on it and settled with it is I still don't know that the MCU can ever like come back to the same place that it was hype-wise. I was watching some of like the interviews that happened at Comic-Con. And you literally have Chris Evans, RDJ sitting there with Pedro Pascal and all these other new characters, and I'm like, I should be more excited about the fact that I'm like watching this interview and they're talking about Doomsday. It's not doing anything for me that Chris Evans and RDJ are sitting in the same room doing an interview with one another. That doesn't hit like it used to years ago. I don't think it will ever feel the same. It just never will.
SPEAKER_04Do you think that that's uh and I don't want to prolong this, but uh but do you think that that like are you soured by the decisions at all to bring them back? Because if like if that's the case, then I can see that. I can see why you wouldn't know it's not that at all.
SPEAKER_00Because I because like almost nothing else is bringing me hype, even like take away those two specifically. There's nothing about like the press of it that's making me excited. I'm feeling confident that it'll be a good movie for those other reasons that I mentioned, but that doesn't mean that like there's been a pure hype and excitement that's been building over time like it was in the like Infinity War and Endgame era. I just don't think that like the culmination of movies will ever reach that point again. Like, I don't I don't know. I it's it seems like an impossibility, and I I even I felt that way about other projects recently, and I kind of expressed that at one point on here. Um, but even going into Spider-Man, like John turned over to me and he was just like, dude, I'm so excited to be watching a Marvel movie that I think is gonna be really good. And I was just like, I mean, yeah, I'm more excited than a lot of recent movies, but like it's not the same, it's not the same. Well, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02We've been down this street, we've been down this street before. We've talked about it. Like, we we've talked about how there have been multiple, like even Deadpool and Wolverine. I think you mentioned back when we were having this discussion, you felt the same way. And me and Charlie were like, that's insane. Because I was so insanely excited for Spider-Man. I was like counting minutes, hours, it just feel like Fantastic Four.
SPEAKER_00Also, it used to feel like such an event. I couldn't sleep the day before watching Spider-Man No Way Home. I like literally for days, I kept on thinking, oh my god, I'm watching this movie in four days, in three days, in two days. I I struggled to sleep the night before. That's how much it meant to me. It literally was like a significant event in my life. And yeah, there's been good Marvel movies since then, and we've watched plenty of good movies, but it it it just doesn't feel the same. I I'm pretty sure No Way Home is the last movie. That truly like felt like an event in that same sense. Not that I'm not excited, but it's just a different level.
SPEAKER_04I think you were more ingrained in the fandom back then, too, though. Like you were you were posting on TikTok, you were sl you were sli swiping on the 4U page, like which I'm sure you do a little bit on Instagram now too, but like you're swiping on the 4U page, you'd see a video at least once a day of somebody talking about a theory for No Way Home, like why Toby and Angelo are in it, yada yada yada.
SPEAKER_00I didn't do that at all for Infinity War and Endgame. And maybe it's just because those were Infinity War and Endgame. Like I don't sure. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you were a little marked. I think that's really what it was. Yeah. Uh well, do you and do you think that that could change a little bit gearing up towards Secret Wars if Doomsday is a really good movie?
SPEAKER_00If Doomsday is you think that could change a little bit if Doomsday has a like insane ending akin to like an infinity war ending.
SPEAKER_06Which Kevin Feige just said that it does.
SPEAKER_00And we have an entire year with basically no other projects, I think that that will boost that effectively.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I like that. Oh no, I mean yeah, I don't think well you've always been you've always been the most out of all three of us, you've always been the most like that. So it's fair. I mean, I get it. Um, do you do because this is another thing that we'll probably touch on later. Do you see this? Because I do, just to preface, I do. Do you see this feeling coming back in the future whenever you are gearing up to watch X-Men or whenever we get some X-Men movies and some mutant stuff? Do you see that feeling coming back? Because I I do. I think I'd be so locked in watching these X-Men movies when that's like it's a it's a fresh start.
SPEAKER_06Fresh start, Benjamin. Yeah, with a whole new team.
SPEAKER_00I'll I'll be honest, I I think I'm much more excited about the next two years than anything in the last like three years. Like the the upcoming slate is just heater after heater, conceptually, for me. So I'm much more excited for things going forward, and I I think I'll be looking forward to those movies a lot more.
SPEAKER_02Uh we're gonna get uh Ghost Rider, Black Panther, and X-Men all in the same year. My gosh, man, that is gonna be insane.
SPEAKER_04X-Men for 2028 as well, yeah, with the cast at the end.
SPEAKER_02Well, and when you look, and this is this is what Brandon, yeah. This is what we were talking about in the live stream. That's gonna be the May release, most likely, and then July, Ghost Rider, December, Black Panther.
SPEAKER_06Okay, yeah, that's the vision. I'm with that.
SPEAKER_02That's gonna be so far.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Uh I've onto Spider-Man after my long-winded.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, well, I wanted to transition into Spider-Man by talking about some box office stuff. Uh, which we we won't linger on for long because there's a good reason. No, no, it was aided in space.
SPEAKER_03Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00So um the reason why we shouldn't linger on it for long is we are literally about to have our winter draft here in the next couple of weeks. Uh, we got the big big episode 150 coming up here soon, gonna have a little game show like we do every 50 episodes, and then after that, I think is when we're doing the winter draft. Um, so we shouldn't linger on it too too long because we'll go in depth on all that stuff and have more information on all the box office shenanigans that are happening right now. Um but a couple of notable things are happening right now. First thing I'll say that's very important for anybody who might not have tuned in for our box office drafts. Aiden drafted Spider-Man brand new day as his hit pick and also has the Odyssey as a summer pick. It's notable because the Odyssey is going to become the highest-rated R-grossing, R-rated grossing movie of all time. I just said that in a very weird way, but you get what I mean. Uh, gonna become Christopher Nolan's highest grossing movie of all time, passing the Dark Knight, I believe, is his highest, or Dark Knight Rises, one of the two. It's gonna become Christopher Nolan's highest grossing movie movie of all time, uh, and is going to profit aid in a lot of money. Like borderline, a hit pick that would go toe-to-toe with like Toy Story Mario movie. Um, so it it's gonna it's gonna do very well. And it's third weekend, it made $51 million domestically, sold out showings for 70 millimeter IMAX for the next couple of months. Uh the the whole nine, it's doing incredible work, and I think is the sole reason why as we go into the winter draft and into next year, that we will probably be ignoring any sort of meta that happens on the online bubble about anything. Uh, because I think that we were maybe playing into that a little too hard when it came to the success of this movie, even the week of when we talked about numbers and we were like, yeah, it's probably gonna make like 700 million dollars and profit like a little bit.
SPEAKER_04Well, was that your primary thing for not picking it though? Because I remember on the draft, you just you said you didn't pick it because of the budget.
SPEAKER_02He he said that he felt like, yeah, the profit, the prop the uh possibility of profit for well.
SPEAKER_00Can I tell you exactly what I said? Yeah, yeah, please, please, yes, so that you guys can ask absolutely scold me. I said, I said, all right, because we had the budget for Mando and we had the budget for Odyssey. I said, what's more likely? Mando makes $500 million or Odyssey makes $850 million. I'm taking Mando.
SPEAKER_04Oh man. Um I great for you, bro. That's good for you, man.
SPEAKER_00Anyways, there's there's nothing to say about it at this point. I I died on the Star Wars Hill. I'm definitely gonna die on the Star Wars Hill next year. Give me Star Wars Starfighter as the one-one pick. Uh like I'm just I'm accepting what? Oh my gosh. Okay, I probably I hope you're getting it. I probably will get it in the summer draft, though. If I just had to get it, sure, it probably will be mine in the summer draft. Uh I can see that. Brandon said the same thing about he he's taking Legend of Zelda, even though he's not expecting too much from it. So uh, but anyways, uh yeah, the Odyssey is absolutely crushing it, gonna make Aiden a lot of money. And then the brand new day of it all, it had the biggest domestic opening day of all time. I do want to uh I want to preface this. This isn't Coke, but I genuinely want to preface this. There were quite a few showings that happened on uh Wednesday for like the early showings. Aiden saw it on Wednesday, a lot of people saw it on Wednesday, and then also Thursday showings, which are accounted for in like the preview day, those a few years ago, the first available showtime used to be like 5 p.m., 6 p.m. 7 p.m. That was previews. Now you can watch movies at like 12, like 11 a.m. on preview day. So I would like to see, and I haven't seen anybody break it down by this, but I would like to see like actual number of showings that are happening on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to see how that stacks up. Not that it doesn't deserve it, but I genuinely think that like when you account for those things, it's it's probably close. The fact that it's still close, absolutely bonkers. Uh, it beat out Endgame's opening weekend and became the highest domestic opening grosser of all time, as well as in totality, we just had the highest grossing domestic weekend of all time between Spider-Man, the Odyssey, Toy Story 5 chugging along a little bit, uh Hades Town, which is doing pretty well. My wife loved Hades Town, saw that. Nice. So uh yeah, absolutely insane things happening at the box office. I think it's a really good sign. Um, and before we talk more about brand new days, since I specifically brought up the domestic opening weekend, I just want your guys' vibe check on it because I already said this in the group chat with Brandon. But do you think that we see a new domestic opening weekend record set in December? Because to me, I go, okay, Spider-Man, biggest opening weekend ever, Odyssey's third weekend in theaters. We then have uh Avengers Doomsday, which is tracking better than Spider-Man when you compare the theater count and showtime count, and then you have Dune's first weekend that it's coming out. I think that's like a layup. Like, I I think it's pretty much a guarantee. And Brandon's main point was well, a lot of people go see movies on Christmas. And like, if that's true, where a lot of people go see movies on Christmas, there's a chance that the second weekend for both of those movies is still like up there. Not that big of a drop. Yeah, I think either way it's gonna it's gonna be broken in December. Are you guys on that wavelength? I think so. Yeah, I'm not opposed to opposed to that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, yeah. I I don't know if I'm fully there, but I I I don't I don't I don't really have a major point against it though.
SPEAKER_02So yeah.
SPEAKER_04Of doomsday breaking the 360 record or well just doom dooms doomsday and dune combined. I guess the my my thing with my worry about it is is doomsday. Also with a little bit of of of both of them launching on the same day. I'm still a little bit skeptical of of that doing super, super well.
SPEAKER_00I I'm just not like I think doomsday will do better than Spider-Man did, and then I think Dune will do better than Odyssey's third week. Like, there's just no way that that doesn't happen. Sure. I don't know. I I see Dune opening to over a hundred million, even with uh even with Dune or Doomsday.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Doomsday just so it just scares me so much. I know I said that Spider-Man would give me a better idea and more confidence in Doomsday. This Spider-Man stuff is just so odd. Like a billion dollars in five days, six days, whatever it is. Yeah, a billion dollars in six days, a 360 dude. This movie opened more than Avengers Endgame did. Like, yes, fluff the numbers all you want. The fact that it's still close even after you shrink the numbers is actually for Avengers Endgame, like a regular street level Spider-Man movie, see, beat that, and that's just so crazy to me. It's like what what I thought this would give me a clearer answer on Doomsday, and it's making things more confusing for me. I don't know how to read Doomsday based on what Spider-Man's doing. Is Spider-Man just gonna be a 2.1 billion dollar movie, and then Doomsday is gonna be right next to it, like neck and neck, or does this mean that doomsday is gonna be a 2.7, 2.8 billion dollar? I don't know. Like I'm just I'm so flat. I I don't know. Ben's hope.
SPEAKER_00I thought I thought I'd have a clearer answer, but it doesn't look like I'd be a believer in that, to be honest. Like what Aiden just said 2.7?
SPEAKER_04You've always been a believer in that?
SPEAKER_02No, the what I've been a believer thousand yeah, 500 million gaps.
SPEAKER_00I've always been a believer that whatever Spider-Man makes, Doomsday can make 500 million more.
SPEAKER_06Gotcha, yeah. You have said that, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which um I don't know if that's true. Like, I who knows? That's I'm just saying that, but like truthfully, everybody who wants to see Spider-Man, maybe that is the audience who wants to see Doomsday, and that's it. Like, I at this day and age, are there as many Avengers fans as there are Spider-Man fans? Who freaking know? Like, it's it's it's impossible to tell. It can go either way.
SPEAKER_04I don't know. I I do think just online chatter is kind of back for the MCU a little bit, like just in terms of as I was talking about before, like the level of memes and whatnot that there's people are just talking, like, dude, the conversation of Steve Lacey, the night uh of the premiere for the for Spider-Man, like everybody was clowning that boy, you know, and and like after the doomsday trailer dropped, all these all these discussions about Thor and and Doom and the discussion of uh of Hawkeye taking down uh taking down Dr. Doom or Daredevil. Oh, conveniently Dr. Doom didn't didn't start doing anything until Daredevil's in prison, huh? Like that blew up. Like, so I do think the online chatter aspect is plays a huge role. I think that that is uh more than anything, like, because that's just a form of word of mouth. And so like I think that could obviously play into Doom's Day very, very well uh as it has uh played into Spider-Man because like that was part of my whole discussion. Uh I guess my point back when Aiden made the the the uh prediction of of Spider-Man being the second highest grossing movie of the year was like No Way Home did so well because of the online chatter conversation with Toby and Andrew specifically, is what I thought and and what I I think I had said at the time. Um and but Leah, look at this fucking dude. It has nothing to do with Toby and Andrew, bro. It's just Spider-Man has fucking motion, bro. Spider-Man has fucking motion. Um which like yeah, I guess I'll get I'll get this out of the way. On on that note. Come on, come on. On that note, I messaged, I messaged, I messaged Benjamin about this, okay. And I don't think I don't think Benjamin wanted to participate, but Aiden, I have I have something, I have something that I'd I'd like to tell you, okay? Um all right, buckle up, all right. Hi, my name is Charlie Jacobson, and you might not remember, but I have something to tell you that's gonna sound crazy. But it's the truth, and I know you're gonna believe me because you're very good at predicting the future. Uh I was wrong about the box office prediction. We were wrong. Uh but Benjamin was making a lot of sense, and the only path forward for me was to side with him against everyone, including you. Because I wasn't just I wasn't just wrong. You were incredibly right. Fucking incredibly right. Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. Uh and sometimes when you're wrong, that means doing the hard thing and admitting it, even if it breaks Charlie's heart. Maybe I'll never read this to you. Maybe I'm just writing this for me. Maybe that's my responsibility to live alone with the truth. But the truth is, I'm sorry for doubting you, and I hope deep down something inside you can forgive me. Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_05There you go, man.
SPEAKER_04Listen, bro, I should have just shut my fucking little ass up because Spider-Man's Spider-Man's my guy. Why was I talking against my fucking guy?
SPEAKER_00You know, but fuck. Charlie, do you want to read a little text conversation back and forth? Because I'm too ashamed. I can't lie.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah, okay, for sure.
SPEAKER_04So before I sat down and wrote that, I I texted, I texted Ben and I said, So we making apologies to Aiden about Spider-Man box office. And uh he said, for what?
SPEAKER_05We all knew it would go wild. And I said, I said, but it's clearly gonna be the second highest of the year. I mean, and then he just responded and said, honestly, bro, I don't give a fuck. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god. Oh, dude, that's gold.
SPEAKER_00Holy, I'm too ashamed to read that. I didn't know when I said no, that that meant you just wouldn't. Like, I didn't I didn't know that you was I already wrote my response, dude.
SPEAKER_04You responded to that so late, bro. You responded to that too, like like two minutes before we started recording this shit. I had already wrote my fucking apology, bro.
SPEAKER_05Fucking hey.
SPEAKER_02Oh man, yeah, that's insane. If y'all ever need a great laugh, if y'all ever need an amazing laugh, go watch our hot takes episode where uh episode 143, where I predicted that Spider-Man would gross more than Toy Story and would be the second highest grossing movie of the year. And I got flamed to all hell. Hades himself had to pull me back up from the black sand beach and throw me back to these boys to record next episode. Yeah, that was uh that was a doozy, and I've been I've been talking my talk. I've actually talked my talk so much that there's not much more to say. I just I know as the numbers kept coming out, these boys are like, oh shit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, well, you know, and let's be honest, he didn't know it was gonna do this good, okay? He didn't know it was gonna do no yeah, a billion a freaking weekend.
SPEAKER_02When you when you go watch, and I don't uh obviously I I'm not solid that this will happen, but when you go watch our draft, whenever I had the hit pick, I was like, honestly, there's a scenario where this is the highest grossing movie of the year. I don't know, call me crazy. I do imagine, and like I I I mean, now is that actually gonna happen? I don't know. It'd be it'd be wild if it does, right? We it'd be it'd be freaking insane, but it's Spider-Man, you know, it's it's the boy Spidey. I didn't expect it to go this crazy, but I mean, yeah, yeah, I don't know. Once I saw Toy Story kind of shit in the bed a little bit and falling lower to 1.1, I was like, this is raps. Like that, it doesn't even matter what Spider-Man does, this is raps, it's easily gonna be a it's floor $1.3 billion, and it is gonna hit that in like what nine days, 10 days at this point. It's already at 1.1. So yeah, crazy. Jeez.
SPEAKER_01All right, Lilith.
SPEAKER_06I'm never I'm never doubt my boy ever again, bro. Never doubt my boy ever again.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. Anyways, uh, let's move on from box office talk. Congrats to Spider-Man, biggest opening weekend of all time, whatever, whatever. Let's talk about the thing itself, the movie. We have all seen Spider-Man brand new day. I have seen it twice. I think Charlie has seen it twice. Aiden, have you seen it three or four times? I've seen it twice. I'm going to this weekend.
SPEAKER_02I know.
SPEAKER_00I thought you had Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday tickets.
SPEAKER_02I had Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday tickets. Friday, we ended up not going. That was kind of like a precautionary. I was banking on Sunday, and then my buddy ended up not going Sunday, so we went to Chili's instead on Sunday. Um, but they're doing the IMAX release, so I'm going for the IMAX release this weekend. So do you have show times up for that? Yeah, yeah, I do.
SPEAKER_00Theater has showtimes. I believe so. Yeah. Theater last time I checked so does not have show times up yet for the IMAX screenings.
SPEAKER_04I've been checking to check again because yeah, didn't Brandon say that they added, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Brandon texted me at like six o'clock. There they are. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_05All right.
SPEAKER_02All right.
SPEAKER_00Ben's going again. Nah, I'm good, man. Uh okay, so we've all seen it twice. Um you're not gonna go in IMAX? That's crazy. Okay. Whatever. Anyways, uh we've all seen it twice. Initial reaction to Spider-Man. Why are we playing dumb? What? Why are we playing? Let's just come on. What are you saying? Go ahead.
SPEAKER_05I'm saying it's fucking phenomenal. Like, why are we fucking playing? That's what we're all gonna fucking say.
SPEAKER_01This shit's fucking come on, bro. This shit is fucking playing, baby. This shit is fucking peak.
SPEAKER_05Don't tell me, Ben. Don't tell me. You're about to do you're about to do some.
SPEAKER_02He's trolling.
SPEAKER_05It's it one thumbs up and a side wave. You're about to do some shit.
SPEAKER_00I I listen. I was not looking forward to this day. What? You're lying. Listen, I I'll be told, I'll be totally truthful and I'll be transparent. I'll get this out the way right this very second. Okay. I'll get this out the way, and then we'll get into it. We'll talk about it. We'll talk about everything. My first watch of the movie, I wasn't underwhelmed, I was whelmed. Okay. We'll say whelmed.
SPEAKER_06Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00I liked basically every single individual piece and individual thing that happened. I thought the pacing of how all of that was put together was not done very well. It kind of threw me for a loop in a way. Now, going into my second watch, which wasn't immediately after, it was four days after. Uh, I watched it again last night, um, which I'm glad that I did. I really wanted to before we recorded. I went in fully expecting like, hey, I know what to expect, I know what's gonna happen. I'm gonna view it from like a slightly different lens now that I know what's gonna happen. It helped a lot. It helped a lot watching it a second time. If we had done the podcast immediately after watching the movie, I would have said, Yeah, it's Great, it's an eight out of ten, but it's not like you know, I'm I'm not blown away by it. It's it's really good, but I'm not blown away by it. It is really dang good, it's really, really dang good. It is uh it's the most mature of the Tom Holland movies, it makes John Watts look like a pussy. Hey, from screen. I'm fucking glad. I'm I'm glad it's finally fucking being put out there. I mean shit. I that was so felt on the second watch, and then I saw some people posting some clips from like No Way Home and Far From Home, where it's just like banter scenes between Peter and Ned and the classmates. I'm like, oh my god, like this is off. This is so bad.
SPEAKER_02Re-watching Homecoming, I'm like, bro, dude, no, bro.
SPEAKER_04I I rewatched the entire trilogy before going into this one, and just looking back on it after watching this one is just crazy. It's just crazy.
SPEAKER_00Oh, because this movie's I mean, it tries to be a little funny in moments, but it's never like overly done, it's done very tastefully. A lot of the stuff is done that makes sense for the story. Like, probably the highlight for me, or at least one of the big highlights, is everything with Punisher. I thought it's just absolutely phenomenal, and their dynamic is so so good. That's just like naturally funny. It doesn't feel forced, it it feels it feels natural. So um, yeah, so much more mature. Um it really it would be interesting to go back and watch and watch the the home trilogy just to to really see what those have to offer. Like that's finally gonna hate Far from Home. Dude, it might happen, which is crazy because like when on my first watch of this movie, I would have been like, Oh, this is not better than No Way Home. Like, this is not the best Tom Holland Spider-Man movie. And then I had a couple days to sit with it, which like upon reflection, it sat really well with me over time. And then the second watch, and I was just like, Oh yeah, this is this is this is peak. Um so I I just want to say I loved this movie, I do think it was fantastic. It is the best Marvel movie that we've gotten since Endgame, outside of probably Guardians 3, but it's close. Sure. Um and it's really good. I I just had to get it out the way that like if we had recorded a couple days ago, we would be having a different conversation. The second watch.
SPEAKER_06I mean, I'm glad you're I'm glad you're being very transparent with that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's uh very, very transparent, but the movie is freaking great, it's so good. And you know what my least favorite part about this whole thing is the gosh dang trailers. This might be the most egregious case of trailers showing absolutely too much. I don't think there was a single action scene that we didn't see clips of. Um we didn't see just little little little snippets or sometimes full snippets. The opening, well kind of opening swing sequence, the big swing sequence, is basically the only big swing sequence in the movie. Like there's not much more swing sequences in the movie, and the fact that they released that ahead of the movie is ridiculous. I think this is the worst example of it that I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_04Which I I that's something I was immediately gonna talk about. I'm very because I uh as soon as I got home from that first watch, I I I watched the the second trailer, and I immediately said out loud, I am so glad I did not watch that. I am so glad I did not watch that second trailer, bro. Because that was crazy, just not like it didn't give any plot details away, but like as you're saying, it showed that one trailer showed like almost every single action sequence in the damn movie, and then of course, like also they just flooded the internet with other clips, longer clips of of those action sequences and everything.
SPEAKER_05Uh and I just saw snippets of those.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, dude. Yeah, so like if there was one movie to do what I did on, like I'm glad that I did it on this one. Um I just I think that like Sony has always kind of had an issue with that, and so I guess I I wasn't prepared. I that's not why I did it. I just did it because I love Spider-Man and I wanted to go in as blind as possible, um even though I folded on the first trailer, but I just had to see something, I had to see a little something, you know. But yeah, it makes me want to do it for Doomsday as well, though.
SPEAKER_00Uh I think we've seen the only other trailer that we're getting.
SPEAKER_04You don't think we're gonna get another one?
SPEAKER_00I think we're going to get that trailer publicly released. The comic conget, yes, and then we're going to get endgame encore with a probably post-credit scene that will tie into does day. I don't think there's another full-length trailer.
SPEAKER_04I think there might be like I would think there'd be one in October or November.
SPEAKER_00They'll probably ideas and yeah, oh, final.
SPEAKER_02They're the final show a whole lot. Yeah. I wouldn't be because we gotta go crazy with the marketing for this. I wouldn't be opposed to doing that with doomsday, just like eyes closed, ears closed, not watching anything else. I got the first trailer, I got the 360 quality of the second trailer, like the horrible dog one dog water quality. Um, I'm fine. Not watching anything else. Security guards walking past the guy who's right past the dude. Dude, that trailer is so freaking good. Ah, I'm I'm I'd be down because yeah, there was a lot in this in Spider-Man that was just like, I've seen everything. Yeah, I've seen all of this. It it's except for maybe the well, I mean, yeah, just the gene stuff really. Yeah, it's all the all the gene stuff towards the end. But I say all the gene stuff towards the end, but we saw the prison fight with the hand. I mean, that was in the first trailer.
SPEAKER_04That was a crazy thing to show. I cannot believe they showed that. That yes, the web the web, the web thing, yeah. The web tornado. Why would you put that in the trailer? Like that's what I think.
SPEAKER_00I don't think that that should have been shown. And then I think they only should have shown the opening swing sequence like they did if there was another sequence like that in the movie. Yeah, like a really like dedicated POV web swinging. Because the only thing I wish we had some more interesting. There's really there's less than I thought there would be. I mean, it's a great opening swing scene, but like there's a lot less than I thought there would be. Sure.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Well, I mean, then I do like instead of like an establishing shot like over New York City, most of the establishing shots are just like a quick shot of him web swinging somewhere, and then they cut to the place where he was web swinging too. I do really love that as well. I think that that was was great, but I do agree. Like, I would have loved a whole nother like dedicated web swing sequence.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I just like for me, there was a lot of cool action in this movie. I almost prefer a cool web swinging sequence over a cool action scene.
SPEAKER_02Interesting. Now I know that's I push back on that because the the camera movement that they were doing when he was fighting Hulk and the way that he was just like going throughout the ceiling walls floor, like in a circle like that while Hulk is chasing him. And then the hand where they flip the camera and he's upside down fighting them on the top. That shit right there. I'll take that over. I'd take those action scenes over crazy web swinging any day of the week.
SPEAKER_00That shit was I'm not saying all of the action scenes, but like I'm just saying you could have sacrificed a little bit of the action and given me more web swinging. That's just me personally.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, no, that's fair. I mean, I would have liked to see a lot more of the I would have liked to see a lot more of the web swinging while he was in the middle of dealing with all of the organic stuff because he he kind of he's messing with all of that, and then where does he go? Uh oh, I think he where does he go after that? I think he goes to fight Scorpion, yes, after he gets the organic webbing. I would have liked to see him struggling swinging a lot more rather than um just cutting to where Scorpion's at and him crash landing to fight Scorpion. So if we sacrifice maybe that fight scene, you know, I could I could I could he also yeah, he gets a handle on it pretty quickly too, which is a little uh annoying to me.
SPEAKER_04Like when he's already swinging with MJ and he's it's like a funny scene, but he's like, Webb, stop, stop, web, stop, stop, and it's like he already he's already got a handle on it at that point. So I'm like, okay, well, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Can we talk about how great it is that he's in the suit for 90% of this movie? Can we yep can we talk about how great it is that it's not fucking CGI'd over?
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, yes.
SPEAKER_00That was my biggest complaint. So much better entire trilogy. Was that better than the TASM 2 suit? Yes, so it's the best superhero suit of all time. Yes, I think so. I think so without a doubt. I I I a hundred percent think so. I actually do.
SPEAKER_04I I the TASM 2 suit for me, the logo is too low. It's like it's like down here on his chest or something, is when it starts. Um, and overall, it a lot of the stuff is just too stretched out. I also love the red on this suit more. I love the blue on this suit more.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the red, the colors are so much better. I don't know if I'm so fully there. Uh maybe after my third watch, maybe after my third watch.
SPEAKER_00I call it everyone is yeah, phenomenal, but I'm literally just like watching Spider-Man exist on the screen, dude.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. That was in my second watch. That's dude, every scene I was like, dude, they are really like they're not like, oh, we need to get Tom Holland in this as much as possible. They're like, they are fine with Tom being in the suit and just talking. Like, I love that scene.
SPEAKER_02And you can see his eyes, dude. You can see his eyes, and I was like, that is my favorite part. That is a big god.
SPEAKER_04When she when she grabs his mask in Punisher's place, and like I'm looking, I can see his eyes through the oh my gosh, bro. It's oh my gosh, yeah, dude. And but no, like seriously, every scene when he's suited up, there if there's like if he's not center shot or whatever, I'm my eyes are still drawn to the suit. That's what I'm fucking looking at. Every somebody else could be talking, I'm drawn and looking at the fucking suit. Like, oh my god.
SPEAKER_02It it just pops, it pops so well. Even in the dim, like when he's fighting Scorpion. Oh my god, he does the fucking the uh uh uh PlayStation Spider-Man stuff where he went down. Oh dude, I was dude, the insomniac love that we were getting in this. I was like a fucking kid in a candy store, dude. Oh, dude, the sequences were just phenomenal. There was so much, dude.
SPEAKER_04I I mean I don't I couldn't I if there were references to Andrew's Spider-Man, I I perhaps just didn't catch them. There are so many references to the Sam to the to Toby's trilogy within this movie. Like though there's one shot in Spider-Man 3 that I've always loved ever since I was a kid, and it's when he's fighting Harry or Harry's fighting him and he's just kind of trying to get away. The ring flies out of his hand and he has to fucking web it. And so when he's fighting Hulk and he loses the fucking inhibitor and he has to fucking web it, I immediately I was like, I'm brought back. This shit is fucking phenomenal.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, like dude, when he has to when he has to catch MJ after she's falling, and the fucking thing is uh uh um landscape landscape, right? I'm not thinking horizontal landscape. The fucking shot is landscape. It's like yes, I don't know. He's falling, but it's like, oh my god, it was just so good. It was I was like, that's such a great time, and you could see him, and the I love the attention to detail where he grabs her, he turns around and he webs like this to grab two things to like cushion it, and then this one breaks, and that's what's yeah. That one breaks. God, the attention to detail on just like how the webbing works, where he's shooting it, and and how it's all like helping him get to where he needs to go. Oh, it is it is awesome. That that scene right there, fucking stellar. This is this this fucking movie is made. This is my favorite movie of the year. I don't give a fuck. Fuck some Odyssey bullshit. This is my favorite movie of the fucking year, dude. This shit means something to me. I can acknowledge that the Odyssey is a better movie. The Odyssey is a five out of five. This is a four and a half star movie from the movie. This is my favorite movie of the year. This is my favorite. Like, who am I to sit there and watch this movie and uh watch Spider-Man do the things that he does in this and watch the relationship and the character building and the character just destruction of Spider-Man and see how how beautiful that ending is and not be like this is my favorite movie of the year. I I can acknowledge Odyssey's better, right? Odyssey is the best movie of the year. Hands down, my favorite. This this fucking movie fucks. This movie rocks. I I think like I don't know, I don't I don't know how how y'all feel about Toby's movies, how y'all feel when it comes to comparing these two. I've been going back and forth. I don't know if I could put this one over Spider-Man 1. Definitely isn't over Spider-Man 2, but I've been I've been challenging myself on like, is this the second best live-action Spider-Man movie ever? I know Ben won't agree with that, but Spider-Man 2 is like that. Is a phenomenal movie. That's that's perfect.
SPEAKER_04It is second best in my book. I've put it over Spider-Man 1 easily, but not over Spider-Man 2.
SPEAKER_02And I the only thing that pulls me back to Spider-Man 1 is just it's just like the the the gene. And I love Punisher and I love Hulk, and I love Gene Gray. I love that we're getting Gene Gray in a Spider-Man movie, but Spider-Man 1, that was like that in the mud in the trenches. Like we got Osborne, bro, like we got we got Harry, we got Mary Jane Watson, like there is something to be said about that. Spider-Man, you know, because that's what I've been grappling with. But the emotions that I felt in this fucking movie, man, given everything that we've gone through in No Way Helm, everything I'm talking myself into putting it over Spider-Man one, but I mean it's it's something to be said. This fucking movie is phenomenal. Yeah, like I couldn't agree more.
SPEAKER_04But you're right, there is a Spider-Man movie. Um it's not Sebastian. Oh, I mean, yeah, that's not surprising. You put it over Spider-Man 2.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, yeah, I I think I have the entire Raimi trilogy lower than most people, for me personally. Sure. Specifically Spider-Man 2, because I don't love the uh I don't love the Peter Parker loses his powers in that movie. I I'll be honest, I don't even love it in this movie as much as other people do. I think it it feels a little um like I understand the emotional motivation, but then like it leans into it a little bit too much.
SPEAKER_06And I noticed that he's with his powers going like going crazy, is everything?
SPEAKER_00Specifically at the end, when uh Gene is like, So what is it? Are you Peter Parker or are you Spider-Man? Uh like that shit is horrible.
SPEAKER_03What?
SPEAKER_00Let him when he says I'm both, yeah, that's hard. He aura farms, it's it's great. But her asking that, there was something about it that was like, it's a little I fucked with it.
SPEAKER_01Dude, that was built up.
SPEAKER_04No, that was actually built up so well because the whole movie, she's seeing him try to and and spoilers, I guess for people watching, I mean, I don't know what we've talked about, that's super spoiler already, but um, spoilers like the whole movie, like she's watching, like she's talking about how he muzzles himself and doesn't let his his true self come out. Uh so like he he's repressing the part of himself that is truly like Peter Parker, and he's doing that metaphorically throughout the entire movie as well. And he's just repressing another part of him, so it's like he's not choosing whether to be fully Spider-Man or fully Peter, and she's just like, So you gotta make a choice. Which fucking one are you? Because you're not you you're staying away from all your friends, you're you're holding a part of yourself back that would make you truly Spider-Man. And what the fuck are you doing with your life? And at that realization, like he finally takes off the internet, dude. That's a hard scene. You're tripping, bro. You're tripping with with Gene asking that question, makes a hard time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the whole time he's like getting his ass handed to him by the hand, and she's like in his head talking to him the whole time. That shit was pure cinema, man. That that was that fucked. That was awesome. I think her involvement in this movie was top fucking tier, dude. Like, it was it was so good.
SPEAKER_04But and even with saying that, you are right. The fact that she's like that's she's not a Spider-Man villain. There is something to be said about that for sure.
SPEAKER_02But but still, it's like this this movie Mog Spider-Man. Like, come on, yeah, man. It is like I feel here, and the way I'm teed the way it's teed up, like the Ned and MJ of it all. I've been no I've been the number one person that has stood uh been like fucking MJ.
SPEAKER_05I don't want them to be able to get him out of there, like we've got him. But look at it.
SPEAKER_01All the shit that I felt, bro, in this movie. Put them in the next two. I don't give a fuck, man. I need them, I need them here. Like that shit hit.
SPEAKER_04That was that's something else I want to say, bro. This movie did so much more for both of their relationships than other than uh, I guess Homecoming with with Peter and Ned specifically does a really good job. So good. Yeah, yeah. Peter and Peter and Ned specifically, not Peter and MJ. MJ's like a total afterthought in that movie. But uh Far From Home and No Way Home, this does a way better job at making me feel something for their relationship than those mov than those two movies did. And No Way Home did a better job than Far From Home. Far From Home did a shit job. Just starting the movie with Peter loving MJ out of nowhere. God, I I was so pissed watching that movie when I was rewatching. I was so pissed. I was so pissed off. But we're not talking about that fucking movie. Um, but anyway, yes, dude, I can't agree with you more because I was in that same camp with you. Like, I did not want them in this movie whatsoever. But like, of course, slowly as like we got closer to the movie, I was understanding their involvement more. And I also love the fact, and again, spoilers, that they-I mean, there's there's there's debate about this, but at the end of the movie, there neither one of them know, still like they don't know that he's Peter, they don't remember, they don't, they don't have their memories. There is some debate with Ned in the handshake thing that oh, that's him remembering. I don't think that's him remembering me personally. I think that's just him realizing that that was Spider-Man. Because also, and hear me out, if that's the thing, if that's him remembering, that's fucking dumb. Like, I I just think that like I wouldn't want that moment, no, hold on. I just wouldn't want that moment to happen right there, and then and then what? We don't, I don't, I don't get to see like that emotional. It's like the MJ, uh not MJ, it's like the Aunt May thing all over again, where at the end of Homecoming, she finds out he's he's he's Spider-Man, and we don't get to see like the emotional drive after that. We don't get to see the emotional conversation until now, Spider-Man 4. But now we got to see like a little bit of the of that discussion in a flashback memory for Peter versus like and that'd be the same thing here. If that's Ned remembering, I want to see the emotional reconciliation for the two of them, not just like a Peter, and then like like I don't like and then cut away from it.
SPEAKER_02I think that that's just sucks. The handshake is what I keep because I I've been I I keep trying to tell myself, like I obviously the way it's played immediately is like okay, he's like, Oh shit, you just said your name is Peter. I remember MJ said that Spider-Man was Peter, like, holy shit, you're Peter, you're Spider-Man. But the handshake, like him remembering the handshake, and and right before that, she's playing with the black dahlia. Um, with with the black dahlia, I think it's a necklace, yeah. Um she's playing with that on the rooftop, and it's like you gotta wonder if there's something there. Maybe it's left open for a reason, maybe they're trying to read the room, but sure, maybe it's maybe she remembered, and that's why she's playing with the toy, and maybe or with the necklace, and maybe that's why Ned remembered the handshake. The one thing I can't get over is the handshake. How did Ned remember the handshake? Was it just like muscle memory? That's the thing. I was gonna say muscle memory or anything.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I would say muscle memory because like does muscle memory work a little bit different? Like, I don't like I don't know. Like, can can did the spell get rid of muscle memory or just memory memory, you know, like or those one and the same thing. Am I just separating like two two parts of the same coin?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, how would you feel if that the if they do remember now? Uh and I know a lot of people point to Gene kind of unlocking that for them for for Peter, so that she can be like, Look, dude, here are your friends, like stop being so that's the case.
SPEAKER_01Yo, she breathed for him, bro. Yeah, yeah, that's what Gene Gray. That's my go, man.
SPEAKER_00That's what she was she the little guy at the end, too. That's what I saw that today.
SPEAKER_02I saw that. Yeah, I saw that. I don't think so. I think they'd make that more obvious if that were the case. I want to I want to say no, because I mean, I I think that is just showing Peter, like, look at how many people you're reaching out to. Little Mexican boy in the street, bro. That could be me, bro. That could have been me as a kid looking at Peter Parker, being like, Yeah, you know, Webb. How would you feel though if that's them remembering?
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay, not you, buddy.
SPEAKER_04Well, like I'm saying, like, if if if we get to the next movie and they already they already remember, they've already had these conversations, uh, conversations of like, oh my gosh, why didn't you tell us? And like, I remember everything we we had this whole life without you. That's so sad. Like, I would hate that. I would actually hate that so much. I I want to see that. Like, that's the whole thing. And I'll also, in saying that though, if that happened in this movie, I would hate that as well. Because you cannot do that in the very next movie. That was that's been the whole thing that I've been saying in the build up to this movie. You cannot, in the very next movie, have them remember everything. I think that that sucks. I think like there's like I I did get to see the emotional turmoil of it, yes, but I think there's more to be had there. Like them restarting their relationships. Like the fact that MJ has a boyfriend now, Peter, as much as he loves her, God, he loves her, he he's gotta like this opens the door for a black cat relationship potentially in the future. If they want to bring her in Spider-Man 5 or a Gwen. There's a lot of people, this is I think this is on the level of like, oh, seeing a black guy, that must be Miles and Rales. But that the blonde girl, yeah, the white blonde girl on the floor. Some people are like, oh, is that Gwen? And it's like, it just opens the doors for all these other things that I think are a great way to explore different avenues of the universe and then still have them be friends, and then like eventually they can come back to each other. And I think that that would be great. Now, obviously, I'm that's talking super long term. I don't know how much longer Tom's talking about like, oh yeah, I know when Miles is gonna come around, but everybody's like, nah, bitch, get your ass back in the studio. I you're you're your ass is sticking around, bitch. If I got something to say about it, you're done when I say you're dumb, boy.
SPEAKER_01Fuck you talking about holy shit. Holy shit, those fucking those fucking tweets, dude.
SPEAKER_02That shit had me crying.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god. So that's the thing. I'm talking super long term, yeah. Like this is stuff that you'd stretch out over a long time, but I think that would make it all the fucking sweeter, man. Like, that's my whole thing with it. Granted, that's a selfish reason, that's it's selfish desires. I think that they can pull it off having it happen in the next movie where they rem they remember each other, and I think there's a way that they could pull it off, and I would love it. Um but that's the thing, I want to see it happen. I don't want it having it happen off screen. Oh, you're gonna ooh, you're gonna piss me off so bad.
SPEAKER_00Charlie, you would have hated one of the guys in my theater on my first watch because he's screaming. No, it's the scene when Peter goes and visits their party in the apartment and MJ kisses her boyfriend.
SPEAKER_01This guy goes, Boo, boo, hell no.
SPEAKER_00And then later on, the rooftop scene of Gene as MJ kisses Peter, he's going, Yeah!
SPEAKER_01And I was just like, No, please, dude.
SPEAKER_04Interestingly enough, actually, I want to when did you guys realize? When do did the realization come to you that that's not when when when she pulled in for a hug?
SPEAKER_02I was like, no, they're fucking doing some slick shit.
SPEAKER_00I I just I suspected it from pretty much right away. I was like, okay, I don't like his whole plan with Jean to just like, oh, I'm gonna leave her in a helicopter. My thought was just like, okay, either she's returning to her body and then she's all she's gotta do, or she's freaking suicide jumping out of the helicopter to get 33 feet away from somebody. Also, that's also that you know, it's not this is not really a solution.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think she just went back to her body, yeah, me personally, and then like because she can jump again, still way faster than Peter can swing. So um yeah. So I'm yeah, but yeah, for me, yeah, I I realized it um right when she was in in in front of him and saying, like, uh, what did she say? Oh, oh, once is uh once is uh is a coincidence, but like all those times and and uh yada yada yada, like or no no no, sorry, it was when she was walking up, we or were we more? And I'm like, Alright, chill out, bro. There's no way you guys are doing this right now. I kind of wish my theater was like that though, where they they were like shouting yes, so then I could like because the reac I imagine the reaction of like, yes, hold her, Peter. It like enjoy enjoy this moment. Like I imagine their reactions to that would have been so fucking like, oh yeah, shut your little bitch asses up. Yeah, yeah, supper. Okay, fuck.
SPEAKER_00That was good. I mean, it was a fine uh theater crowd. It's crazy because like it was opening night at like V prime show time, like 7 p.m. So it's like 7 p.m.
SPEAKER_04Yep. That was mine too.
SPEAKER_00I'm kind of surprised there wasn't a more electric crowd to be.
SPEAKER_04No, that's the thing. Neither one of my shows, because I did it Thursday, Friday, so so preview night and then opening day, and like neither one of my show they all clapped at the end, but that's it. There was no like big reactions or anything like that.
SPEAKER_02Um the dream gray uh reveal was pretty cool, at least my reaction, but it was just like a like uh popcorn collective, like yes, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_04So uh somebody that's actually the one exception, I guess, is like somebody in my theater was like, God damn it, when that happened. I was like, What?
SPEAKER_05Who the fuck did you think she was?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but uh the other MJ's.
SPEAKER_02That reminds me, that's sorry, I was trying to collect my thoughts. That reminds me, I was like, I I I remember having a funny reaction when we watched Across the Spider-Verse, and um like I I think like Prowler shows up at some point. It's some type of Prowler uh in some way shows up, I think it was, and uh maybe it was uh Donald Glover as as Prowler, and um a kid in the very back, and this was like my second watch. A kid in the very back was like, is that Black Panther?
SPEAKER_01Everyone was like, everyone just started dying. I was like, that's gold. That's gold.
SPEAKER_02Is that Black Panther? And the mom's like, shh, shh, shut the fuck up.
SPEAKER_04Holy shit. Um the MJ scene uh in Punisher's uh boat, uh boat house. I wanted to talk about uh golly, just talk about ripping your heart out, bro. It's just absolutely brutal. Like I saw it coming, of course. Uh yeah, but like it still just it doesn't it doesn't make it any better. Like Tom, dude, a lot of people said like this is his best performances as a character, which obviously that goes without saying, I think, but just his the way he plays this scene is just phenomenal, dude. Like not even like fully crying, it's like he's it's like he knew all along, and like it sucks because he's finally hearing it and now it's become real. Um and even the way he just sell like you mean everything to me. Uh I love you. Like, ah, dude, so so fucking good, so damn good. Um which speaking of and I do I do want to talk about that scene for for for you guys, but uh also just want to say I don't think I've said it yet. He's my favorite Spider-Man now. Andrew Garfield was, yeah, yeah. He's Tom Holland is my favorite. Yep, yep. Tom Holland is my absolute favorite now, without a shadow of a doubt. Uh, which I said after No Way Home, I said that that was that is a very high possibility. Like I never felt dude, apps are far from home. I was like, fuck this fucking Spider-Man. I cannot fuck with this. But then No Way Home did a complete flip, and then now I now I'm here. Uh it's just crazy to say, but also it just feels so fucking right after this movie, and I just I cannot thank everybody enough. Destin Daniel Creton, um Tom, Tom for getting it uh for getting it done.
SPEAKER_00Zendaya did a great job. I want to congratulate every single person who was involved in making this movie, bro.
SPEAKER_02You're acting like fucking me wanting that fucking uh record, bro. First of all, I just gotta thank Dustin Daniel Creton, man.
SPEAKER_04It's just real, bro. Like, oh my gosh. I just I I love this shit so much, man.
SPEAKER_02So good, dude. It is so good.
SPEAKER_04I can't I can't believe that like that's actually I never thought that I'd see that with Tom for the longest time. Him surpassing Andrew for me, and so like phenomenal stuff. I get like I just the way they're and granted, I know it's a five-year time jump, but like they do such a great job, all of them, at playing these characters older, and especially like looking back on, and I imagine for you as well, Aiden, looking back on like homecoming since you watched it after, looking at how young they play them there, and just like how childish they all are, compare that to now, even just down to their fucking voices, they do such a great damn job. Well, and all of them.
SPEAKER_02There's there's even the like Ned being like uh it's so interesting how they play these characters, and I'm glad that you brought this up because yeah, like Ned going up to this locker and being like, Guess you just got the Death Star, and uh he's like, No way, seriously, like let's let's build it tonight. But then you also look at this scene where they're just like chilling, they're playing Legos, and he's like, you know, just they're sitting there nerding out, but it's in such a different way, it's in such an older way.
SPEAKER_00Also, W set that they were building that also phenomenal W Lord of the Rings reference. I I was gonna ask, was that a Lord of the Rings reference? Yes, it freaking was. Was it the first movie?
SPEAKER_04Would I have would I have understood that? Damn, I would have understood it. I would have understood it if I if I watched my punishment movie for watching the trailer for this movie. That's actually crazy. I was it was my punishment movie for watching the trailer for this movie, and I would have understood the fucking reference.
SPEAKER_00And the last time that you were in here, I tried to say, you know what, Charlie, it's okay that you owe us watching a movie, whatever, but it's been such a long time. You should at least try and watch them before you watch Brand New Day, and you still freaking didn't.
SPEAKER_02Crazy, crazy, even just playing that, like, they're still nerdy, they're still talking about Legos, they're still building Legos. And in Homecoming, yeah, they're high school kids, like you know, and and Tom is just walking around like a little chud doing it. But now it's like they play it in such a grown way. Um, and like, dude, like I sat there after my second viewing, and I was like, This fucking movie has Spider-Man playing with Legos, bro, with his best friends. Are you kidding me? Like all in costume, too. Like, come on, bro. Over there chilling with the Legos. But to end that scene off with MJ flipping the notepad around, uh, tears, bro. I lost it. I lost it. I was I was done for so good. I was done.
SPEAKER_04So damn, dude.
SPEAKER_02The yeah, they play the characters so well, dude.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the the dude. I uh two two scenes I gotta talk about, and then I'm I'm pretty much uh I'm tapped out, uh, even though I can talk about the movie all day. But but the opening, man. Oh my fuck. I was crying in the fucking opening of the movie, bro. Just watching him watch them live their lives through his fucking phone. That's fucking devastating, bro. And then the very end when when Ned is talking, like, who can forget this happened and the pizza party with Nate and the legendary la la la la la. Peter missed all of that, and he's fucking slowly walking. You just see the fucking depression on his face. He's walking over to get his little fucking Caesars from the door, and oh my gosh, bro. That is so like my god.
SPEAKER_02Quick tangent the marketing in the first act of this movie is fucking bananas. I was like, bro. Oh my god, they were like, yo, attention span's peaking in the first hour. Let's just throw all BMW Lil Caesar Samsung. With the Samsung Galaxy, like, bro, what do we do?
SPEAKER_04And they had they had Takkies in the background too.
SPEAKER_02The Bureau was subtle, bro. What am I? Yeah, the Bureau was actually clever. Yeah, um, one of my favorite scenes and it played in the trailer is him spinning the key to the fucking city on his hand while his suit dries in his shitty ass apartment uh community washer. Oh, like bro, this is this is just everything that we've been missing. This is everything that we've been missing from.
SPEAKER_04Another reference to the to the Toby trilogy, too, washing his suit in the in the drive. Like, I don't know. It could be a nod, could be a reference, whatever.
SPEAKER_02No, yeah. I mean, I don't know. This, and I I'm gonna bring this up. I don't want to talk about it with y'all, but like your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Like this, that feeling of like Peter Parker being in a connected universe. I loved that about your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Now, throw in some nice Peter Parker in there and some struggles, like these, like they said, and you got this movie. I got of course we're gonna love it. So, I mean that and then like uh like we could talk about the fucking him seeing oh first off, leading up to him seeing Ned and MJ at their at the party and then playing Tame and Paula. Oh my god, like Tame and Paula, Steve Lacey, and Bad Bunny in this movie, like what yeah, but then after that, like him just free falling to his death because I saw his that was the other scene.
SPEAKER_04That was the other scene I was gonna talk about. Oh my fucking gosh, bro, and and Ben mentioned it already earlier, but like him having to watch her kiss him and then just fucking perfect, bro, outside rain, raining, swinging around, swinging around in his fucking civilian clothes, fuck bro, just crying, and then all while the fucking memories of his life with with her playing. Oh my fucking gosh, man. Dude, come on.
SPEAKER_01This movie made no way home even better.
SPEAKER_02Like then, dude, that last scene where she says, just wait, wait till we're in person, and you tell me, and then he tells her and she says, I don't love you anymore, I don't even remember you. Oh my god. Like, bro, when you when you look at what this movie has done for the home trilogy and how it's heightened everything in the bro, the Aunt May scene with fucking Gene. Oh my god, like all of that being like Peter being like, Look, the the let me put you in my shoes of the support system I had before and let you hear what I've been needing to hear this whole time. And that does that does enough for both of them. Like both of these people, you can go the gene route when you're lonely and you lose everyone that you love and you have nowhere else to go. You can be vengeful and and and kill people and take take your anger out on the world. You can go the Peter route where you just do nothing about it. Neither one is good, but they come together and find a good way to tackle that. And for her to go off to X Mansion or whatever, and for Peter to tell Aunt May, like, I'm not doing this alone, I'm not doing this by myself. That fucking journey, man. I like I that's why I think that Gene adds literally nothing but greatness to this movie because Destiny and Ocreton has found a way to merge it so well. Like, exactly. Give him the keys to fucking Spider-Man, bro.
SPEAKER_04Like, bro, and Amy Pascal already said if they have it their way, he's coming back for five. So let's he said sure. I I just hate that he has Naruto right now, so that'll probably take up the next and he's also he still says Shang-Chi 2 is in active development, too. So, like, how fuck Shong-Chi 2, give me Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_01That's what I'm saying. I'm fine, like no Ben.
SPEAKER_05I I dude, I'm with that, I'm with that, bro. I avoid that.
SPEAKER_04So, like, I'm sorry, I love Shong-Chi, but I need me some fucking Spider-Man, bro. I cannot go another five years without a Spider-Man movie. The last time we went five years, no, no, no, no. The last time we went five years without a Spider-Man movie was between oh no, yeah, no, it was it was between the end of Toby, yeah, Spider-Man 3 and amazing dude. That was so fucking long ago. That is so fucking long ago. I can't do that again. I cannot do that again.
SPEAKER_02Y'all be fucked up, man. That was that was brutal. I yeah, I need to. I'm sorry, Shongxi. Yeah, bro. Give it a shot. Push that shit away. Give it to give it to John Watts. I don't give a fuck. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I might need to leave. Give it to John Watts. It's crazy, bro.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, bro. Give it to Sean Levy too. I don't give a fuck, bro. I haven't do ghost rider and that at the same fucking time. I don't give a shit. Holy fuck.
SPEAKER_02Dude, I need I need that. I need Spider-Man 5, bro.
SPEAKER_04I'm I'm glad you brought that up though, Aiden, uh, about like the connected universe of all of it all. Because one of the big complaints about this movie, uh, that I I was I was gonna totally forget to bring up, is that like, oh, it's it's not even like it it just focuses way too much on the it's the classic MCU complaint where it they're they're building a bigger story rather than focusing on this story in the movie. That is a bunch of horse fucking shit. That is like that is not true whatsoever. They are building to stuff in the future, but I think this is one of the best ways they've ever fucking done it in the MCU. It is so subtle that the only way you're understanding that they're building to something else, with the exception of the post-credit scene, is if you're in the fucking no. Like if you know about comics and shit, that's the only way that you're gonna know that they're building to something. And that is with Peter building the inhibitors in general, which is fucking crazy by the way, making him the the the the that's a meme going around on Twitter, making him the Oppenheimer of of uh the inhibitors with the mutants and shit. That's gonna be a crazy fucking storyline for Peter in the future. That that is so subtle that it and it's built into the plot of this movie for Peter needing to use it. That is not only for future building whatsoever. And then Gene's inclusion is so tactfully done that it it is well, it is just a great story for just this movie. It dude, I would I would be more inclined to agree with those people if at the very end of this movie she just rolls up to the X-Mansion and and that happens. And then I'd be like, all right, bro, calm the fuck down. Like, why are we doing but they don't do that? They they know Destin Daniel Crenton knows, Kevin Feige knows, and so they're not fucking doing that. So I just don't I don't get that complaint whatso fucking ever. Just because they they have we have a mutant in here and she's the bad guy, and there's there's talk about these inhibitors and shit. That that does not take away from the the main story at all and and only prioritize future world building. No, not not a fucking shut the fuck up. That's such a dumb complaint.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I agree. Yeah, also crazy. This is a side note, it's crazy watching turning on homecoming and immediately seeing the villain setup is tied into Department of Damage Control. I was like, wow, that's that is a a through line villain if I've ever seen one, like just since the beginning, and and we're now still dealing with it. I thought that was that was pretty cool. Yeah, I don't have much much more to say on that. I've I've Spider-Man'd out, I've geeked out, I've I've loved out. I mean, this fucking movie is everything to me. This is like I will show my kids this this movie, and uh, you know, I'll put this in Spider-Man 2 on, and that's all they really need to know about about Spider-Man movies. Oh live action. Um, yeah, dude. I mean, gosh.
SPEAKER_04I have a couple funnier things to say, I guess, that aren't really as they pertain to the movie. Some of it, one of it is I went to this movie with 11, 11 heads, 11 people, including myself. Um, that's wild, bro. Um, none of them are like super nerds, though. They're I think they just went because they know I I I love the shit out of Spider-Man, as as you guys know. Um well, that's just like never mind. That's a prop. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I sat next to one of them. Uh, and actually one of them, I will I'll say this one really quick. One of them that is not this guy, it's a it's a different guy. One of my friends, he he didn't get to sit with us because I I I replied late to what seats we were buying, and so he bought back behind us. But uh, he actually watches the podcast on like a regular basis. He told me when we were out there. Yeah, I I literally yeah, I didn't even dude so much on a regular basis. He watched the episode I was not on. The one you guys did last week. He did, dude. He watched the Odyssey one, and uh he like he how I found out he did it was uh after we got out of the movies like so you only rated the Odyssey four out of five, four and a half out of five stars. And I was like, How the fuck would you know that? I'm like, like unless you have letterboxing you follow me, or you just you you heard them say it on the podcast.
SPEAKER_02What a legend, dude. That's absolutely fire. Well, dude, I yeah, I have some pressure on me now. I'm like, shit, people actually listen to this.
SPEAKER_04I did plug the podcast too to the whole group of friends. I don't know if they'll all if they'll all watch, but uh shout out to it.
SPEAKER_07Maybe they will.
SPEAKER_04Uh I also told them that they could comment whatever they want, and we'll read it so next week. But uh, the one who was sitting next to me, it was really funny when the first time V Max is is mentioned. Uh they say V Max, and then somebody well, one character's like, What the fuck is that? And then he turns to me, he's like, You're you're the nerd, bro. What is it? Tell me, what is it? And I'm like, bro, I literally I don't know.
SPEAKER_05And we it's at the end of the movie, and it's just it's what V Max on the fucking van. Like I just I think that's so funny.
SPEAKER_04Like, he's just immediately to me for some nerd shit, and it's just nothing to do with that.
SPEAKER_02But well, great, honestly, a amazing, um, amazing reveal, too. That was awesome.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that was a it's golly, man.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, great shit.
SPEAKER_02Uh the last thing I want No, you go you go ahead.
SPEAKER_04I was gonna say, I feel like I have something, but I I'm just forgetting what it is. I'll try to remember it while you say.
SPEAKER_00Uh, the last thing I wanted to talk about is how many gosh dang people know the Peter Parker of Spider-Man. Because it is now MJ confirmed, Frank is confirmed, like Punisher knows. Um, an undisclosed amount of people at the hospital, who knows, doctors, nurses, whoever, an undisclosed amount of people. Um, Bill from Department of Damage Control. Probably Bill knows because he was there.
SPEAKER_02I'm assuming I'm assuming that Gene had a hold on him, which means that he wouldn't be able to remember anything.
SPEAKER_00But then she released her hold on everybody. The glass fell, and he's just there. Like, true. He's he's at least seen him. Maybe he doesn't know he's Peter Park, but he's at least seen him. Um, and then obviously Gene knows. And was there was there something else? Was there somebody else?
SPEAKER_04Well, Ned knows now. I don't know if you said Ned. I know you said MJ.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I don't know if Ned knows. I'm I'm I'm in your camp.
SPEAKER_04That's my thing at the end. Well, my thing at the end is he he realizes that he's Spider-Man. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_00I think he realizes that he had a friend named Peter that he now has so you think he does get his memories back. That's what you're saying. Oh I think he has memories of his friend Peter. I don't know if that extends to knowing Spider-Man and everything else.
SPEAKER_02I would be more in the camp of that he just realized like Peter's, oh shit, Peter's Spider-Man. That's what MJ.
SPEAKER_00So that didn't help. But um but yeah, really like playing it pretty fast and loose with uh with this movie and how many people found out that he was Spider-Man, which I think it is interesting because before they did it with almost nobody, and then they did MJ and Ned specifically, and then it was the whole world knows, and then it was nobody knows, and now it's quite a few, like it's kind of almost all of the Avengers do that.
SPEAKER_04Boy, he was just walking around with his mask off. That was one of my complaints of like Infinity Wars.
SPEAKER_02Uh Hulk Hulk form also knows now. He said is true.
SPEAKER_00Um well, yeah, that's what that's one of the things. As I've gone back to No Way Home a couple of times, that I'm like, oh my gosh, Pete Peter three, I guess. Andrew Garfield walks through the portal, immediately takes his mask off. Like, I'm like, yeah, what is this guy doing?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, in front of three random people, he's just in that same scene, he's like, it kind of defeats the the purpose of the anonymous superhero thing. Buddy, you just took your mask off. What the fuck are you talking about?
SPEAKER_01Because they were saying Peter, Peter Peter, Peter Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_04But so I yeah, that's a fair argument, actually. My thing with the Hulk thing though, when has Savage Hulk ever met Peter? When has that has never happened?
SPEAKER_02I think he I think Peter saying it's me, Peter, I'm your friend was more so him trying to get to Bruce.
SPEAKER_06Appeal to Bruce, yeah, have Bruce take over.
SPEAKER_02They also I don't even think Bruce and Peter.
SPEAKER_04Well, he he would have he didn't meet Peter, he met Spider-Man. So yeah, I yeah, I don't know then. No, he would or he would have met him at the funeral for Tony, but like yeah, even then, we don't know that for sure.
SPEAKER_02The headcannon conversation they had there exactly, so that's that's the thing.
SPEAKER_04I don't know. Uh so that could be looked at as like a plot hole thing. I don't it doesn't bother me that much though. Um yeah, it could just be yeah, maybe Hulk doesn't even realize that it's Pete, like he's just realizing he's damaged, like he's realizing he's hurting Spider-Man and he knows Spider-Man. We know that he knows Spider-Man, so like I don't know. Yeah, I need more Punisher.
SPEAKER_00I I need more Punisher, yeah.
SPEAKER_02This Punisher, not John John Bernthoth directing on the Punisher because like night and day, night and day. Like this made me hate that Punisher special even more. Like, yeah, good grief, man. Yep.
SPEAKER_04My my like Uber nerd complaint would just be that like Peter's not as harsh on the Punisher as he could slash should be, but I again that doesn't really bother me too much. Like that's just a different, it's a different iteration of the character who's like, I don't know. You could argue that he's wants that he should like be trying to put him in jail because he's like a mass murderer, but like I don't know. I don't it doesn't I'm here for the fun campiness of it just as much as like I would be for that. So like that's yeah, it's fine either way for me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, it's so good, it's peak. Um my favorite movie of the year. Sorry.
SPEAKER_06Uh it's alright, man. You're not a you're no Spider-Man 2 lover for some reason. So that's yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_04That's the the guy who watches the podcast regularly, actually. He just texted me the other day and he said after we watched Brand New Day, and he said he watched Spider-Man 2. He was a re it was a rewatch for him, and he puts Brand New Day above it. So there you go. You got somebody in your camera.
SPEAKER_00Shout out, bro. Shout up, bro.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we got two people with bad taste, crazy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, stop watching up, yeah. Uh getting into our final topic for today, we have X-Men 97. Have we even talked about this at all? We haven't even talked on the fucking Magneto. Haven't you guys talked about it once? Uh recently.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we talked about the first two episodes, Aiden and I did, yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I I dipped out for a bit. Um, gonna have to dip out again. Uh I'm just kidding. What? Uh I'm kidding.
SPEAKER_01I'm kidding.
SPEAKER_00Well, we say we need to hear your thoughts on season one first. I fully watched season one and I am completely caught up on season two.
SPEAKER_04Well, no, you're not. There's a new episode out right now. Just came out.
SPEAKER_00Okay, if it came out an hour ago, my bad. What do you want me to do?
SPEAKER_02That's right.
SPEAKER_00I'm not caught up on it either.
SPEAKER_02What did you I watched it while we were recording?
SPEAKER_00Fuck up. Thing is, he would do something like that. Uh yeah, so I guess I'll start with some some season one thoughts. Um episode five. Episode five is phenomenal. It's a great episode. It's incredible. That uh that last line. Sugar. I can't feel you.
SPEAKER_01I can't feel you. That was good. That's good. Kaylee Spaney. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00It's crazy. Um we can't we can't encourage this, man. We can't encourage this. Truthfully, uh, this is this is where I put the hand up and be honest again. It's a good show with a couple of great episodes for me personally. I don't think it's a great show consistently. Um, it weirdly is like an adjustment for how comic booky it is, which I think I mentioned maybe even in the little bit that I had watched in my catch up a couple weeks ago, um, that it's just like it very much embraces everything. It really just kind of goes for it. And that has continued throughout the show. And I I've really felt that of just like, oh my gosh, this is truly a comic book show in a way that I'm not used to it being. Um, but it also, even though I didn't grow up watching a lot of animated superhero shows, it almost like to me feels like this is exactly what it would have been like to grow up watching those shows. Like, this is a show that you would have seen when you were five, six, seven years old, whatever. Like, this is the kind of show that you would watch on television and absolutely love. Uh, even just down to like there's something about the voice acting that almost feels like it's an older show, if that makes sense. I don't know, I don't know what it is, but for some reason, though those cartoons growing up, like a Transformers or something like that, there just is a very certain tone of voice, almost like a gravity to the world.
SPEAKER_06I get that with Wolverine for space specifically. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, it just feels very like classic style, which is is really cool. So um yeah, I'm I'm really liking it. I I I truthfully I think it I think it's great, but I don't think I'm like quite as into it as like you guys are, at least based on like my vibe from how you guys talk about it. Like I I would probably give season one like an eight out of ten. Well, I think with a ten out of ten episode.
SPEAKER_04Like it's well, I don't know if Aiden's opinion has changed, but I I mean I was kind of with him on it. Uh, that I we think it's some of the best shit the MCU has ever put out, or Marvel has ever put out.
SPEAKER_00100%. Yeah. Yeah, I'm just I'm just not there personally. Um this wouldn't really like this wouldn't really stand out that much, other than certain moments. Like we'll talk about it, but like episode five of season one and then episode four of season two. Like it's those are those are phenomenal.
SPEAKER_06The storm scene, bro, when she gets her powers, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Dude, I there's lots of great scenes. I'm just I'm just telling you, like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I I Magneto's speech in episode two.
SPEAKER_00The other thing that I need to say is, and we've talked about this before, but I'm not as much of a show guy, and so I think that part of my viewing could be hindered by the fact that I caught up and binged the entire show in the last few weeks, and I did it like pretty close back to back, and haven't had as much time to like sit in between episodes. Like, I was basically doing like four episode blocks at a time to watch the show.
SPEAKER_06I mean, and based off of what you just said about watching Spider-Man, like that could be a a thing for you that you need like you need to sit and evaluate stuff and yeah, potentially watch it again, kind of thing, to to like yeah, I don't want to say get your true rating, but just to see if like you actually like it as much as you which I do like like I said, really do like this eight out of ten.
SPEAKER_00Um, but I don't know. For me, there's peaks and then there's a lot of just like it's really good, but not incredible consistently for me.
SPEAKER_06Crazy work, man. Crazy work, yeah. No, okay. Well, what about season two then?
SPEAKER_02Sorry, uh no no no, it's fine. I want to hear this.
SPEAKER_00Basically, same thing, episode four being absolutely incredible. Yep, everything else being pretty good. The episode last week I didn't love, to be honest. So I would say consistently so far, this is probably under Is that the Wolverine episode last week?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02I thought last last week's episode was the episode after the uh was the uh fucking AI droid that went to that possessed.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
SPEAKER_02Oh, the danger. That episode was great.
SPEAKER_00So far, it's like worse at this point compared to season one. It still has like a high, high episode with episode four, but then like the rest of the episodes are uh overall just like slightly below I would say what the average hitting was for season one. So still really liking it, very much enjoying it. Uh and when those peak moments happen, they are peak, peak moments. But yeah. It's good, it is really good.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I think uh I think you're just a little crazy there, pal. But I mean, that's fine.
SPEAKER_00I knew you were gonna say something.
SPEAKER_04Uh that that's I mean, that's fine. Everybody, everybody feels the way they feel. The season two one I'd be more inclined to agree with. Yeah, I don't think uh so far season two is it just seems like it's all over the place with the exception of a couple episodes.
SPEAKER_03So all over the place. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Like it's not it, it doesn't have like the one track mind that season one seemed to have. And even season one, like, honestly, episode five isn't really no, no, because the the main the the the bad guy did uh he caused that. He's he's the one who caused Jenosha in season one. So like never mind, but there are still some side episodes in season one, like I think of the Jubilee video game one. Uh like there's side episodes, but for some reason, like these ones are just seem more frequent, and then they it also just kind of detra-cause like you also gotta think, they ended the Wolverine episode with the the post-credit tease of uh Apocalypse re- reviving Gambit. And then they essentially ended this next the danger episode with the same shit, just with the heroes finding out that he resurrected Gambit, and they just went to the place where he resurrected Gambit. And so it's the same kind of tease, and so it's just like, all right, well, you're just kind of prolonging things. Like, I don't know, it's a little and but at the same time, like episode four is so damn good that like I I still really appreciate this season uh just for for for doing that. And it if they can land that specifically, because I think there's more to to be said with that. I don't know, maybe they'll save that for the next season, but if there's more to be said with that this season and they land that really well, I think that that could be that could be great for for Charles, specifically in his his character arc.
SPEAKER_06Because golly, bro, Charles just gets thrown around like a little bitch a lot of the time. Golly, Charles, yeah, get up.
SPEAKER_02I feel like this season has, yeah, definitely been a lot more uh wonky than definitely season one. And I I feel like we had such a through line the first four episodes, first three episodes. I feel like we had it was first four. I feel like we had such a good through line where we had the team going in the past and the team going in the future, and kind of what their plan was. And then after the Magneto episode, it was like five, six, and seven. It was the Wolverine stuff, which was essentially filler just to get Wolverine back to where he is, and then it was the danger room stuff, which I really did not like that episode. I at that I was like, What are we doing? Like, really, this is our villain for this episode. I feel like we just spent three four episodes uh teeing up apocalypse, yeah. And we haven't even gone back to that, we haven't even talked about it. We've only talked about Magneto's involvement in it, and then this most recent episode. Um gosh, what even happened this most recent episode? Uh sheesh, I watched it the other day. I thought it was really good. That's the danger room one. The danger room one. No, there was another episode. There was an episode after that. It was strange. Oh, strange, strange heart, strange land, or savage. Oh no, he's no, he's right. But maybe where was that one before, though? Yeah, with Colossus. No, was that the new one was after the danger room? Oh, okay. I just completely forgot about it. When did that come out?
SPEAKER_00Was really last week?
SPEAKER_02I had it probably last had to be last week, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I could have sworn I watched the new episode that came out last week. It was so you haven't seen one with Colossus?
SPEAKER_04An Exodus They go to the Savage Land. No, I have Nightcrawler, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, great and creed, yeah. And I thought that was a really good episode. I thought I liked that episode. Such a good episode, but again, it's like uh again ended with a tease of gambit, you know, and I'm like, all right, well, we had the first four episodes with the great through line, we had apocalypse, everything like that, and and I thought we were teeing up for like some amazing apocalypse or gambit stuff, and then we had three episodes that were just all dealing with completely different things, yeah, completely different characters, completely different villains, and what we have one more episode that's the today's is that the finale today. I was gonna say no, the penultimate is dead man's hand, which is today's today, okay. So the next week is the finale, gotcha. Because that would make eight. No, that would make nine. I guess there were nine at the time. It's because there's nine, yeah. Anyways, my point is we had such a through line at the beginning of the season, it looks like we're just getting away from it. And the grand scheme of things, it looks like it's literally just to have Polaris on the team and have Logan back to where he's you know fully healthy at a mantium and everything, and um, I guess teeing up some stuff with Colossus, and then we're gonna have these last two episodes which will maybe tie back to one through four. It's all over the place, man. I'm actually surprised. I know we're we're we're not gonna touch uh too much on it today, but I'm actually surprised that this still has a hundred percent Rotten Tomatoes, 191. That is like insanely high for a season that I think is nowhere near as good as season one was. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Because like I even compare the the the storm getting her powers back to the Wolverine thing, even though he wasn't getting his powers back, but he was getting his Adamantium back. And they just the way they handled the Storm one is just so much better. Like, like the way she's she's tortured by just simply what she said about like wanting to be a uh be human and try that out, and like Logan, all we get is a singular scene uh at the end of him talking to uh Morph, and Morph feels betrayed because he didn't tell him the truth, and he's like, I just didn't feel whole without it, and like that's all we get. Like I I just feel like and it's the same writer from season two, even though he got kicked from season one, even though he got kicked off the show, he wrote both season one and season two. It's just crazy that he I don't know, had such a steep fall-off, it seems like, in in writing quality. Because like, how are you able to handle Storm getting her powers back so well? But then Logan seems like such an afterthought, and like you're focusing more on this alien invasion storyline, more so than that. I don't know, it's just weird.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So I'd agree, Ben, when it came to season two, but I still think season one and the first four episodes of season two, we were we we were getting to peaks that I had never seen before, man. It was it was fire.
SPEAKER_06I mean, I'm gonna have some crazy apocalypse stuff in these next two episodes, man. Yeah, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_02I feel like also I feel like these next two episodes are gonna be phenomenal.
SPEAKER_04They bet, but like two, you're like you're leaving us two episodes for for apocalypse stuff.
SPEAKER_06Like that seems crazy.
SPEAKER_02Like at that point, just make it six episodes or like make it seven episodes, and you know, episode five can be Polaris, Wolverine. Like, I don't know, and I love the I really do love the Wolverine episode. I love Morph being like, doesn't that make you sad, Logan? It makes me sad. And Logan just like stares at himself with it in his claws as like this is just all I ever will be. Like, that was some really good stuff. Yeah, that's great stuff. These these episodes are good, just not in the grand scheme. Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, these episodes are good, just not in the grand scheme of of this season and the the story that we're trying to tell with this season. I just don't remember season one being as bad with this stuff.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I agree. Which is crazy because like I I would have thought going into season two, with how season good season one was, I got I had faith in in it, truthfully, in in yeah, the ability for it to still be as strong. I like there wasn't really much of a doubt in my mind.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. I mean, I'm still enjoying it personally, but it's it definitely is not as good, even though I'm not as high on season one as you guys are. So yeah, that's fair. All right, well, like I mentioned earlier, we have a couple of very exciting episodes that are gonna be coming up. We have episode 150, where we will have some kind of a game show that is a mystery to Aiden and I, hosted by Charleston. I'm not doing that, I'm not doing that by Mr. Curls. Uh Mr.
SPEAKER_06Curly.
SPEAKER_04Hey, we can all show up on episode 150 and we'll all just sit here for an hour and a half because guess what? I ain't doing shit.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you're funny.
SPEAKER_00Um and then after that, we have the big box office winter draft, which is going to be very, very important, uh, or it won't matter at all because David's gonna run away with it.
SPEAKER_04But we are I'm gonna try. That's not to say that I'm not gonna try. I'm gonna try. Hey, you've actually done research for this one.
SPEAKER_02Y'all can still fight for second place. Like that's that's good.
SPEAKER_04I have actually done some research for this one. I will I won't lie. I've I've looked into it. I have I have a game, somewhat of a game plan, no matter where I land on the wheel. Okay, so I don't believe you. I like it.
SPEAKER_06I do, I have a game plan, I promise.
SPEAKER_00I'll be honest, if I don't get the first pick, I don't really give a shit what happens. That's crazy of the draft.
SPEAKER_02Like, I I feel like honestly, just with everything going on recently, like Odyssey and Brand New Day just going ballistic, and y'all saying that it's over, I'm running away with it. I'm like, dude, I just have a feeling that I'm gonna get the first pick, and it's just gonna be the funniest shit ever. Like, oh yeah, cool. I got Odyssey, Brand New Day, and Dune and Project Hail Mary. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I just feel like it's gonna happen. That's actually gonna be crazy.
SPEAKER_04Even even if I don't get first pick, I'm not confident that I'll get anywhere near second place without first pick, but I you know, I I I I still feel I'll feel good about the picks that I have to choose from.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, y'all got it. I need to put I need to put at least a little bit of thought into it. Fuck you.
SPEAKER_05Like we need this motherfucker to cheer us on.
SPEAKER_04You got this, guys. What the be chippin' out, anyways.
SPEAKER_00Uh that's gonna be coming up. We'll have Brandon back on for the draft, and it'll be a fun time. And honestly, I'll be glad. Listen, I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer. I'll be glad to get this winter draft over because then I will be really looking forward to the next time we draft going into next year. Uh, because I'm not as much looking forward to this winter draft, just given the circumstances.
SPEAKER_06When do we get to draft winter draft for December?
SPEAKER_00Okay. And I will not draft. Within the first three weeks of December. I will.
SPEAKER_06I will I will so we're doing it after the trip, essentially. That's what you're saying.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I think it's only fair for all of us. We have to see the doomsday opening numbers.
SPEAKER_06Sure.
SPEAKER_00I think everybody wants to see that before going into the next year because then it will be maybe even you think you're saying it decides the one-one, the one-one pick.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, if doomsday goes ballistic, I think especially wars years. I think we think Secret Wars is the one-one right now, Aiden?
SPEAKER_02Hands down, if we were drafting the first week of December, I think Secret Wars is 100% one of one without even seeing Doomsday's performance. Without seeing anything, I draft it at my one. I'll draft it as my one of one right now for next year. I would do it, yeah.
SPEAKER_04If we could well that hold on, Ben, you weren't saying that in the group chat. You were saying you were worried about it. Weren't you saying you were gonna hold you you're waiting to see, you're not gonna say because because Brandon asked what our hit picks are, and then you said I'm waiting until uh until mid-December.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but if you're telling me I had to draft it right now, I'm still going secret wars. Like it doesn't okay. Those can both be true. Like sure. Well, the job, you know, why didn't you say that? You know, stand on your world, but yeah, I don't need are you drafting secret wars if you're drafting? Yeah, if I get first pick, yeah, of course. I mean, I'm not an idiot. Because next year there's less competition compared to this year for hit picks, so I think it's just clear already, but it will be like even more brain dead and obvious to pick secret wars, depending on if doomsday outdoes Spider-Man its opening weekend. Like if that's the case, then it I mean we we talked about how crazy Spider-Man is going, but there's a chance, a good chance, I would say, that doomsday, even with a 1 billion break even, is already making money and profitable after its first weekend.
SPEAKER_06Sure, just like Spider-Man would be. If that was the case for Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. I mean, I was saying I said this while you were gone. The reason that I'm still like hesitant about like what you're saying, like the performance of Spider-Man to having anything to say about Doomsday, I think more than anything, not that it there's no correlation, but I just think there's a higher correlation between Spider-Man doing well just simply because Spider-Man himself has motion more so than Marvel has motion. I think Spider-Man doing as well as it is is because of Spider-Man having motion more than Marvel having motion. So that's why I kind of step away from what you're saying with with why Spider-Man doing better means Doomsday will do better. But I I also don't think that there's no correlation with that. I I I like I agree with what you're saying, but I I mostly think that Spider-Man's doing well just because he's Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_00I agree, but I also think the millions of people who went and watched Spider-Man and see their first trailer for Avengers Doomsday are I didn't get that by the way.
SPEAKER_06I should mention that. I did not get kind of bum ass doing on either.
SPEAKER_02I know I know some people didn't. I know, like uh my buddy went to go watch it at two o'clock on Wednesday, the two o'clock screening on Wednesday, and he also didn't get the doomsday trailer, but I did Wednesday uh evening. Yeah. Also so pissed that it wasn't the Comic-Con one. I was really looking forward to it being the Comic Con one. That would have sucked a week later.
SPEAKER_04Then I would be just going there to try to see that trailer.
SPEAKER_06Like I'd just be going there for that one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Anyways, uh, that is going to do it for this episode of the Words from the Nerds podcast. Be sure if you're Charlie's friend specifically, comment something for him to say next week. Compliment yourself, you will have to read it. And yeah, we will see you all very soon for more exciting, nerdy content. Charlie, I thought you were about to say anything. You were gonna say something, not just y'all. Um, so, anyways, let's get out of here. We will see you all again very soon. Say Nara.
SPEAKER_01Yes, being
